Poppy the dragon loved to cook. Her little kitchen smelled of cinnamon and cocoa, and her shelves wobbled with jars of sprinkles. Tomorrow was her best friend Willa the bunny's birthday, and Poppy had promised her the most wonderful cake in the whole valley.
But there was one tricky problem. When Poppy breathed fire to bake, her flame came out ROARY and ENORMOUS. Whoosh! Her first cake turned black as a beetle. Whoosh! Her second cake crumbled into smoky bits. Poppy's shoulders drooped. 'Oh, crispy crumbs,' she sighed.
Poppy looked at her messy counter. Burnt cakes, burnt cookies, one very burnt banana. She felt disappointed, but a small brave spark glowed in her chest. 'Willa deserves a beautiful cake,' she said, tying her apron tighter. 'I just need a plan. But which one?'
Poppy thought hard. She could go to the quiet pond and practice making her flame teeny-tiny, all by herself. Or she could fly to the mountain and ask Grandpa Cinder, the oldest and gentlest fire-breather she knew, for help. What should Poppy do?
