BOOM-whooosh! Flick shot upright in bed. Outside her window, a golden comet blazed across the night sky, fizzing and crackling like a giant sparkler! It swooped low over Dragon Valley β and golden sparks rained down over the mountains like glittering confetti.
'A Spark Comet!' Flick gasped. Grandma Cinder's old stories were TRUE! Once every hundred years, the comet scattered wild sparks across the valley β and any dragon quick enough and brave enough to catch one would win their fire! Flick still hadn't found hers. Tonight was her chance!
But the stories said the sparks vanished at sunrise! Flick gave her wings a mighty stretch, wiggled her tail, and leapt out the window β WHEEE! β gliding into the cool night air. Her heart drummed like thunder. 'Ready or not, spark,' she whooped, 'here I come!'
High on the ridge, Flick skidded to a stop. The sparks had split two ways! One trail glittered down toward Thunder Falls, the biggest, roariest waterfall in the valley. The other zipped up toward the Whistling Peaks, where the wind whooshed through twisty sky-tunnels. Which way should Flick chase?
