Every morning, Prince Oren raced down to the garden to see his friends β Pip the rabbit, Hazel the hedgehog, and Nutmeg the squirrel, who lived in the big old oak tree. Oren loved that oak more than any other tree in the whole kingdom.
One afternoon, dark clouds rolled in. The animals chattered nervously, but something seemed odd β they kept glancing back at the oak tree, not the sky. 'Why do they keep looking at the tree?' Oren wondered, his tummy fluttering with curiosity.
Suddenly, the chattering turned into real words! 'It's not safe!' squeaked Nutmeg, eyes wide. But before Oren could ask what wasn't safe, thunder rumbled and the animals scattered. Oren's new gift had arrived just in time β but the mystery had only just begun.
Oren had to find out what was wrong before the storm hit. Should he climb the old oak himself to look for trouble, or follow Nutmeg, who kept glancing back as if she knew exactly where the problem was?
