Sarah looked out her window at the sunny street below. She could see the sparkly blue ocean far away. But something made her frown. There were wrappers and bottles scattered on the sidewalk. The wind was blowing them toward the storm drain!
Sarah ran to find her mom in the kitchen. "Mommy, there's trash blowing everywhere! If it goes down the drain, will it end up in the ocean?" Her mom nodded gently. "It can, sweetheart. Would you like to help clean up?"
Mom found two pairs of bright blue gloves. "These keep our hands safe," she explained. "We only pick up things we can see clearly. Never touch broken glass or anything sharp. If something looks yucky or strange, we leave it and tell a grown-up."
Sarah and Mom stepped outside with their bags. The breeze carried salty sea air. Sarah looked around at all the litter scattered about. What should she look for first?
